The Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) is a private opera school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The AVA is a tuition-free institution of training and performance for opera. Located in a 19th-century townhouse at 1920 Spruce Street, it was founded in 1934 as the School for Vocal Scholarships and was re-named AVA in 1936. The AVA is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music as a non-degree granting institution. While it does not offer degrees, it awards graduate-level artist diplomas to students who have successfully completed a four-year program of study and are ready for a professional career in opera. The school's annual seasons of student opera productions are performed at AVA's Helen Corning Warden Theater and sometimes tour to regional venues such as the Zoellner Arts Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
